CURENT Missions

Missions

Missions can be divided into 2 categories, planned missions, and spur of the moment missions. Planned missions usually involve some sort of story, whether it be a long story line following the life of a fictional pilot or a single mission that deals with a isolated event.

A Planned mission will usually take place in Phases, each one getting you closer to completing your goal by completing individual paramaters of the mission. Whereas a Spur of the moment mission can occur at any time, and usually are just to have some fun while a group of people are waiting for something to do (an example is a "Beer Run" which involves striking a convoy to restock the FTS cantina "Moes").

A good mission will have multiple "paths" that the story can take. This can be done by spliting the participating pilots into flight groups, and/or creating alternate missions to fly if the previous one was a failure. If you are making up a new planned mission there are a few things that you should remember:

1) Make the missions before hand:
This will speed up the proccess of starting the mission while everyone is waiting for you to start.
2) Test your mission:
Test for lag, difficulty well before you make other people fly it. You may want to add more waves to the player craft if the mission is to hard.
3) Allot people means allot of lag:
Try to make your mission ambiguous so you can easily split the participating people into different flight groups. A simple skirmish between fighters can be split into as many groups as you want and it will even add to the feel of the mission. All you have to do is get the hosts of the FG's to come with you to a game and you load up the mission with them. As long as they don't play another XWA game before the mission they will have it saved in their temporary slot.
4) Know your ships:
Some ships cause more lag than others. Tie Fighters probably cause the least amount of lag and can be used in large groups. If you want to have allot of another ship you could set them multiple waves. 2 or 3 of another ship at a time shouldn't cause too much trouble. And do not make multiple craft for the player craft unless you really want to. Just add more waves.
5) Warheads cause tons of lag:
Only use these when you are fighting a capital ship. If a warhead is changing direction chasing a fighter it is the same as adding another ship to the game.
6) Best connection should host:
This isn't like a competative match, being the host will have its benifits and its draw backs, but you want everyone to have a fun Lag-free game so give up hosting to the best connection.
7) Flight Groups are best devided by region:
FTS pilots come from around the world, so use this to your advantage. Group North Americans and Europeans seperately.
