  Installing these files will most likely not effect your game in a negative way. I can't say for sure, but I know allot of people that use these files (including myself) and haven't heard many problems relating to them.

 The NCA patch is a widely used file that adds a bunch of new ships to your game. Included is the E-wing, which is used in Falcon claw. Very few problems have been reported with this file.

  Update12b.exe is an addition to the NCA patch. I'm not sure which ships it adds, because I installed both the NCA patch and this file at the same time, but I know that it has worked with my game for a while now.

 XWA Piloteer is an excellent tool made to modify your pilot data. It allows you to change the name, rank, skill rating, medals and current level of any pilot that you have saved on your disk. Pretty handy at renaming your game pilot to your FTS callsign. Be carefull and test run it on a test pilot before you accidentally lose your game pilots data.
